What is a brake drum?

Drum brakes are very similar to disc brakes…as long as you step on the brake pedal, hydraulic oil will flow through the brake lines through the master cylinder and generate friction by pressing the brake shoes on the brake drum. As we all know, the friction produced by drum brakes is slightly larger than that produced by disc brakes, which makes braking more efficient.

How often should brake drums be replaced?

The replacement time of the brake drum is usually the same as the time you replace the brake shoes, between 30,000 and 60,000 miles, depending on your driving habits and standard driving conditions.

Is it safe to drive with a brake drum problem?

If you experience braking problems, it is strongly recommended that you do not drive. This is not safe. You should have a professional inspect the brake to determine where the problem is and repair the brake correctly.
